Background: The automatic MP20 model Plate Butt Welding Machine in the attached first photo was taken at Wuxi JACK workshop, for being commissioned before its delivery to customer.
1) Function and Specification: MP20 plate Flat Butt Welder is the smallest, also one of the most frequent selected models of MP series machine, for the task of fulfilling Butt joint welding on plates. This model is for:
a) Implementing on butt joint metal plates of up to 2,000mm wide, which is the common size of the steel plates:

b) With the optional function of flame triple cutting on the plate,for the purpose of plate beveling before butt welding. The reason on beveling is to get optimum fusion quality of butt welding seam, especially plates with thickness above 15mm:

2) One Machine with Two Functions:
- Without this optional unit of triple flame cutting, customer need to specifically cut out bevel on the edge of the plates, at other equipment ahead of time on plate Butt joint welding operation in the machine. Usually this task is acquired by Edge Milling Machine;
- With flame triple cutting mechanism, one set of MP series Plate Butt Weld Joining Machine completes on the function of both beveling and joint butt welding with the single set of equipment, which is a cost effective way of plate butt joint solution for customers.
1) The general structure and working principle of MP series Plate Butt Welding Machine is something similar to Edge Rounding Machine: A fixed main body with front feeding in and rear sending out conveyor roller tables. Raw material goes through the plate Flat Butt Welder machine, and being fabricated into finished product of joit plate:

2) Workpiece Going Through: The plate feed in side of the gantry side of Plate Butt Welding Machine is installed with flame triple cutting unit (The attached 2nd photo), the opposite side (send out) side of the gantry is installed with welding torch unit (The attached 3rd photo):

a) The most prominent technical feature is MP series machine adopts with Melt through technology (One side welding Two side forming), which is Wuxi JACK patent in the year 2017;
- Under majority conditions the butt welding mode is SAW (Submerged arc welding), for joint metal plates with thickness 6 ~ 40mm;
- In minority conditions, for joint thin metal plates (2 ~ 6mm), CO2 gas shielded welding is used. This is very similar to welding mode distribution in H Beam Fabrication Machine. The attached 3rd photo and attached video show CO2 gas shielded welding in Wuxi JACK MP series Plate Butt Weld Joining Machine:

b) Please check the attached 3rd and 4th photos. In Wuxi JACK MP series Plate Butt Welding Machine, melt through technology butt welding system include:
- One set of welding power supply equipped with operating control console;
- Welding torch and its motor drive carriage along horizontal guiderail of machine gantry frame;
- Welding torch lifting unit;
- Welding torch high precision cross slides;
- Welding flux recovery unit (SAW only);
- Welding wire feeding and straightening mechanism;
a) Function: Please check the attached 5th photo and below photo. This unit is installed beneath the workpiece plates, and worked in the form of upward stroke during start up operation. Which means, it pressed the plates tightly against its bottom surface of the joint plates:

b) Usage of Copper Pads: This copper pad unit is for forcing formation of “One side welding Two side forming” (Melt through Technology) butt weld seam in Wuxi JACK MP series Plate Butt Welding Machine. To guarantee stable temperature and thus maintaining on prime condition of machine, and stable welding performance, this copper pad unit is cooled with circulating water;
5) Copper Pads Elevating Unit: As mentioned in the above, it is motor drive and for manipulating the above mentioned copper pads along vertical direction;
a) This circulating water cooling unit is for heat dissipation of the above mentioned copper pads, during large current butt welding operation in the machine;
b) The cooling process utilizes circulating water. There is a water tank alongside the mechanical main frame of the machine:

7) Hydraulic System: Oil cylinders are for driving the pairs downward pressing blocks, which are installed in interval along the entire length of worktable, to firmly clamp the 2 pieces of plates, the precondition on satisfactory butt welding effect;
8) Electric Control system: 2 pieces of A.C. Inverter and other elements: Contactors, relays, fuses, breakers, etc.
