Wuxi JACK Welding Center on Tank Production: LHZ5050 Column Boom Welding Manipulator Machine with HLK80 Welding Roller Rotator:

Application and Welding Mode: For fabricating on large tanks in batch production. Both external longitudinal seam and circumferential seams. Adopt SAW welding and SAW Strip Cladding:

A. Business Case of SAW Welding and Strip Cladding Welding Center:

1. Background: Developed by Wuxi JACK in year 2018, for an East European customer of Oil and Gas Industry, for fabricating on large size tanks. The diameter of tanks can be up to Φ4500mm, finished joint tanks length can be up to 20m;
2. Workpiece support is fulfilled with laying large tanks onto drive and follower welding roller beds of each groups of HLK80;

3. 3 Types of Major Welding Machinery and Its Operations for Fabricating on Tanks:

1) The internal and external longitudinal seam welding on each segment of tanks, which need to be completed with LHZ5050;
2) The internal and external circumferential seam welding for joint 2 segments of tanks, by means of HLK80. Considering large diameters of tanks which is easy to drift during circumferential seam welding, and in turn brings along negative effect on welding performance, hydraulic drive lifting function is introduced to follower welding roller bed of HLK80, to acquire anti-drifting function. This can helps making sure welding torch always aiming on welding seam during welding;
3) The Strip Cladding (Built up welding) on external surface of tanks, by means of ESAB Welding source ESAB LAF1601, and its accessories and function kits, to form into a welding package. This is the core outsourced parts of Welding Center. The tailor made welding head is installed at front end of LHZ5050 horizontal boom:

B. Column Boom Welding Manipulator Machine and Bolt Adjust Welding Roller Rotator:

1. In (LHZ5050 + HLK80) Welding Center:

1) One set of LHZ5050 heavy duty column boom Welding Manipulator, with column manual revolve function in the angular scope of ±180°, and mechanical base bed (trolley) moving along rails under motor drive. The rail spacing is 2,000mm;
2) Six sets of HLK80 (80 Ton loading capacity of welding roller bed) Bolt adjusting Welding Roller Rotator. The follower section roller bed has lifting function, driven under hydraulic oil cylinders;
3) One set of HB30 Two Axis conventional Welding Positioner. It serves as welding fixture, for changing orientation of workpiece to ideal position during welding:

1) One set of Sweden ESAB produced LAF1601 SAW power source, equipped with 15m long cables;
2) Welding head A6S ARCMASTER (SAW twin wire, Φ3mm diameter, ratio 156:1), for carrying out SAW finished welding;
3) Welding head 30- 100mm A6, for implementing on Strip cladding on top surface of workpiece. It is installed on the front end of LHZ5050 horizontal Boom;

C. Technical Features of Finished SAW and Strip Cladding Welding Center:

1. The major welding mode in this sophisticated Welding Machinery group is SAW (Submerged arc welding), applicable for fabricating on workpieces made of medium to thick thickness carbon steel;
2. 2 types of SAW Welding:
1) The conventional single arc finished SAW;
2) SAW Strip Cladding (Built up welding);
The welding heads for carrying out the above 2 types of welding are different. During operation, switch between 2 welding modes is by manual taking off the current welding head, and reinstall the other one;

The SAW Strip cladding operation has high deposition rate, high welding quality, and low penetration rate. Such high end welding head will produce a layer of 60mm width x 0.5mm thickness on surface of workpieces:

1) Customer is a Chinese pharmaceutical facility;
2) Task: Fabricate on thin wall (2mm- 3mm thickness) small to medium diameter container for pharmaceutical use, which are made of stainless steel or carbon steel;
3) The required welding operations are external longitudinal and circumferential seam welding on stainless steel pipes;
4) Applicable Welding Mode: The workpieces pipes have wall thickness ranging from 1mm to 5mm, which should be adopted with CO2 GMAW Welding.

4. Technical Brief on CO2 GMAW Welding Center:

1) Welding Torch Swing Unit: As shown in the above 1st photo, welding torch on the front end horizontal boom of LHZ3030 has its dedicated swing unit. This is for the purpose of getting sufficient broad cover face and fusion of welding seam from the CO2 MIG welding;
2) Work Bench: As shown in the above 2nd photo, to help operator to have comfortable operating position, conforming to ergonomics requirement, Welding Roller Beds of HGK05 is laid on a stationary work table, at the same height level as operator;
3) Weight Ballast: Also shown in the above 2nd photo, there is a piece of small diameter tube inside the workpiece (Thin wall stainless steel pipe), being laid inside turning rollers of roller bed. This small tube serves as counterweight: Due to light weight of workpiece, to keep it steady during welding operation without floating, there needs a ballast inside the light weight stainless steel pipe, so that stable high level controllable welding performance can be fully guaranteed;
4) MIG Cored Welding Wire Feeder: As shown in the above 3rd photo, the delicate cored flux welding wire feeder is installed at middle point of horizontal boom. It is part of complete kit from Panasonic GL5 series MIG/ MAG welding power source.

It is adopted with HMI (Human machine interface) and touch screen, for operators to conveniently and intuitively manage on operation procedure;
6) Welding operation: Depending on different dimensions and design of workpiece (Pipe flange), welding turntable of HB05 can be tilted to different angle, to acquire on the optimum orientation on welding operation;
