1. Applicable Workpieces and Welding Technique in I H-beam Gantry Welding Machine:

1) BOX T I H Beams, the large size heavy weight steel structure workpieces, which are usually made of carbon steel:

2. Welding Technique Adopted in I H-beam Gantry Welding Machine:

1) H Beam: To firmly weld the steel structure workpiece with sufficient welding seam integrity and strength, 45° fillet position large current SAW submerged arc welding technique is carried out, of single arc/ twin arc/ tandem arc options:

2) In the case of welding on BOX Beam, the workpiece is laid in 0° flat position, at middle of bottom position of machine gantry frame. For this reason, the max. thickness of BOX Beam for welding is usually 20mm:

B. Advantages and Operation Way of I H-beam Gantry Welding Machine:

1. Multiple Passes Welding: Different from 3 in 1 I H-beam Welding Machine, which usually entails one time welding only on workpiece, here in sole purpose machine on BOX and H Beam welding, two or more passes welding can be implemented along the entire length of workpiece, by driving machine gantry frame back and forth several times along workpiece;
2. Accordingly, deep penetration and broad cover face welding seam can be acquired, meeting customer requirement on building heavy duty steel structure constructions. This is especially useful for building H Beam with flange and web thickness thicker than 40mm:

4. Operation Manner of Gantry Moving I H-beam Welding Machine:

1) H Beam Position: As shown in the above photo, during operation, the 2 pieces of H Beams are laid in stationary onto on its support rack;
2) Welding Operation: Mechanical gantry frame and its installed 2 pieces of welding torches move along H Beams, and perform SAW welding at the same time;
3) Welding Velocity Management: The gantry moving speed is welding speed, which is adjusted with A.C. inverter, and shown in real time on digital meter of operating panel;

2) Capability: The welding seam tracker has spatial three dimensional tracing ability in precise manner, during welding operation: Along horizontal direction, it is managed with gas cylinder, floating type; Along vertical direction, it is managed with gravity;
3) Tracking Elements: There are leaning rollers for both horizontal and vertical direction track, which touch with surface of horizontal welding seam and vertical mounting carriage tightly in dynamic way, in the process of SAW welding;

2. Application of Open Structure I H-beam Gantry SAW Welding Machine:

1) LHC column trolley machine is mainly used in automatic heavy duty H Beam Production Line. One set of LHC completes on one SAW welding seam on H Beam, 4 sets installed in total;
2) LHT T frame machine is applied in semi-automatic H Beam Production Line, implementing on SAW welding on two pieces of H Beam simultaneously, within one time of its operation; So, this machine is also applied in BOX Beam Production Line.

1. Application of LHC Model I H-beam Welding Machine

1) Operation Way and Site: LHC is usually 4 sets in a row, being installed at SAW welding zone of fully automatic H Beam Production Line. In this way, one piece of H Beam goes through the 4 sets of LHC, and with help from hydraulic drive 90° Overturning Machine, finished SAW welding on all of its 4 pieces of seam welding on H Beam. The entire process is implemented in automatic, operator just need to manage on operating panel of LHC, as shown in the left photo;
2) One Model Fitting for All: Same as LHT, there is only one model LHC: In theory, all web heights of T I H Beams can be welded in this open mechanical structure, from 200mm to 2000mm.

 

2. 4 Special Points of LHC Column Trolley Open Structure I H-beam Welding Machine:

Compared with LHA closed frame and LHT T frame machine:
1) No workpiece racks necessary for LHC model. Instead, T I H Beams are put onto group of hydraulic drive 60° Overturning Rack, as you check from the left hand photos;
2) Only 1 piece of SAW welding torch installed in one set of LHC machine. So, only piece of H Beam can be welded in LHC at any moment. This model is designed for automatic line use;
3) 4 Sets as a Group: The on site application of LHC I H-beam Welding Machine in automatic H Beam Production Line involves 4 sets of LHC working as a group. This is for completing H Beam 4 welding seams fabrication, with its one time flow through the line, without turning around;
4) Material handling in LHC model machine is safe and labor saving: Flipping and conveying workpiece is realized with 60° Overturning Rack and Steel Conveyor;
5) Balance is Important: The “downside” of LHC I H-beam Welding Machine is also obvious: It has single side inversed L shape, which is not as stable as LHT and LHA double sides acting structure I H-beam Gantry Welding Machine. So, during machine assembly at producer workshop, and official operation at customer site, be sure to always take care on balance of column trolley. This can be acquired by means of putting counterweight onto moving trolley during assembly at Wuxi JACK workshop, as shown in the left photo, and putting SAW welding machine onto moving trolley when the LHC machines are at customer workshop use.

1. Technical Features of LHT Open T Structure I H-beam Gantry SAW Welding Machine:

Characteristic: LHT is the intermediate model between LHC column boom and LHA gantry moving models, common points with LHC and LHA both:
1) Mechanical main body of LHT has T shape structure. The 2 pieces of H Beams are laid at external sides of T frame during SAW welding. So, it has open structure;
2) Welding torch quantity: In one set of LHT, there are 2 pieces of welding torch. So, 2 pieces of T I H Beams can be welded simultaneously in the LHT machine;

    2. 2) So, any sizes of H Beam, from the smallest web height 200mm, to the max. web height 2000mm, can be placed into LHC or LHT open frame machines;

    1. 1) Major Welding Mode: 45° fillet SAW welding is the No.1 choice to be implemented in all models of machine. And, among this, majority is with single arc SAW welding; When customer need higher welding velocity, or thickness of H Beam flange and web are larger than 60mm, tandem arc SAW should be used;
    2. 2) Promise Heavy Welding: The strongest point of sole purpose I H-beam Welding Machine is to get solid welding seam formation in fabricated BOX T I H Beams, which guarantees sufficient penetration depth/ broad cover face of formed welding seam on finished workpieces;
    3. 3) Mature Welding Technique: SAW and other types of welding is managed by means of professional welding power supply (Single/ twin/ tandem arc welding machines), together with system of assistant welding operation, including welding torch position detect and control, welding wire feeding and straining unit, etc.;

    1. 1. This is a good question, that often neglect by customer and supplier company, and sometimes cause controversy. For example, in end of December 2025, when a Vietnam customer communicated with Wuxi JACK on LHA model H-beam Gantry SAW Welding Machine, we forgot to remind customer that, the 18m long parallel rails for gantry movement is not included supply range, because unlike rails of CNC Flame Plasma Cutting Machine, which need to be machined, for rails of I H-beam Welding Machine, the parallel rails do not need to be machined, do, it is not in scope of supply. This is common practice, but need to confirm with customer when making quotation;
    2. 2. Basically, supply scope of all types of I H-beam Welding Machine:
    1. 1) Mechanical main frame, including motor drive moving trolley for LHC, gantry frame for LHA, and T frame open structure for LHT;
    2. 2) SAW welding system, including different types of welding machines, welding torch mechanism, supplementary welding units, flux conveying and reuse machines;

    1. 3. Unless specifically designated by customer and negotiated accordingly, supply range of I H-beam Welding Machine do not include:
    1. 1) 2 arrays of triangular H Beam support rack;
    2. 2) Parallel rails for frame movement;
    3. 3) Cable overhang racks;
    But we provide drawing of these items for customer producing these items. The reason we do not provide these items is, it is easy to produce, but have large size and heavy weight, which will greatly increase logistic cost of I H-beam Welding Machine. To save freight charge on the machine for customers, we exclude these items from supply range of the machine.

  • Q How Many Operators are Necessary for Running on I H-beam Gantry Welding Machine?

    A This is another important question customer concerns during machine purchase analysis, and actually differs based on practical condition at customer site. the major factors affecting number of operators include:
    1. 1) Model and design of machine. For example, for LHA series H-beam Gantry SAW Welding Machine, there are 2 branches of: LHAC lateral operating type, which usually need 2 operators work on one machine; While one operator is sufficient for working on LHAZ middle operating type;
    2. 2) Quantity of machines on site: Especially for I H-beam Welding Machine, very often customer purchase more than one set of machine: For LHC model at automatic H-beam production line, usually 4 sets in a line; For LHA series gantry frame moving and LHT model open structure T frame I H-beam Gantry Welding Machine, one or two sets are installed in H Beam production workshop. Under ideal condition, one operator can take care on operation of 2 machines simultaneously, which can raise productivity;
    3. 3) Operator Proficiency: This is another controversy sometimes happened during business exploration. For example, also in end of December 2025, the Vietnam customer discussed with Wuxi JACK engineer on how many operator is necessary for operating on PHJ and ZHJ series 3 in 1 I H-beam Welding Machine. The Vietnam customer questioned on whether only one operator is capable of working on one set of the 3 in 1 machine, he told us that, in Vietnam factories, customer manager arrange on 2 operators to work on the machine: One as lead and one as main; On the other hand, from Wuxi JACK perspective, if operator is proficient, only one people is sufficient for managing on the 3 in 1 I H-beam Welding Machine.
