4) Design and manufacturing on large models machines involves sophisticated design and validation process, strong machining and assembly capability.
1) Upright Column: With increasement on vertical end face milling stroke, so is the potential risk of upright column defection and swing, because of its insufficient strength and rigidity if not proper designed and produced;
2) Potential Risk on Performance:
a) Insufficient rigidity upright column may bring along problems of uneven finished end face milling surface on workpieces, and inferior end milling quality:
b) With increase of column height, so as increase of potential probability of “Milling Head Dodge” --- This means the upright column take the milling head away from workpiece during end face milling operation of Steel structure BOX H Beam Large End Face Milling Machine, leading to insufficient milling depth, and thus inferior end milling quality;
3) Safety Hazard and Measure Taken:
a) Growing more seriously, flabby upright column may lead to safety issues to operators, when operating on these heavy duty machines;

1) Carefully Calculated and Validated Design:
a) In Wuxi JACK large models machines, cross size sizes of upright columns are specifically enlarged and strengthened:
b) For example, 1700mm x 1800mm cross section size for upright column of DX6080 large model, in the integral appearance form of trapezoidal transition, improving on stress condition for performing on high speed two dimensional running of the milling head, during operating period of large models machine;
a) To fully guarantee on its strong and sufficient firmness, the upright column is made into shape of inclined type, making its heavy duty bottom segment of enlarged cross section;
b) The entire piece of upright column is integrally heat treated after being welded into shape;
c) The connecting boards between machine bed and column, as well as between column and milling carriage, also have augmented dimension;
d) In all, the upright column in large models machines have large cross section of bottom segment for solid base, and oblique top segment. Such design of upright column has the best degree of rigidity, which has sufficient bearing capacity and good appearance;
1) Upgrade:
To meet demand on fulfilling end face milling on large dimension workpieces, several critical parameters are updated:
a) Spindle rpm of face milling head: Being raised to 75~ 505 rpm, from 75~ 420 rpm;
b) Travel limit of face milling head spindle: To L= 250 mm, from 100 mm;
c) Milling Head Tilting Angle: To -45°~ +45°, from 0°~ +45°;
a) Raw materials are 20~ 30mm thickness steel plates and section steels;
b) The sub-assemblies of machine bed and columns are made from integral parts and heat treated integrally;
c) Cross section of upright column is the most critical parameter for getting successful heavy duty machine, which are specifically enlarged;
a) Horizontal transmission is by means of gear and rack, connected together from 5,000mm segment each piece;
b) Vertical transmission is by means of integral piece of leadscrew.
For models from DX40xx, which means the max. up and down end face milling stroke is 4,000mm, power of the equipped milling head is raised from 7.5kW to 9.3kW or even 11kW, to fully guarantee on efficiency and cutting depth of end face milling on large steel structure working parts:
